Dr. Catherine West has been practicing in the Houston area since 1980 after graduating from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Her unique office  specializes in examining and treating children experiencing reading difficulties.  She also provides functional vision evaluations for the hard-to-examine pediatric population. Her goal is to provide a safe, non-threatening clinic setting where every child is given the tools to succeed and thrive in today's accelerated academic culture.

We recommend children have a thorough developmental exam before entering kindergarten.  Critical visual and eye-hand skills must be present at this time for reading and writing to occur.  However, the typical child in our office is in second or third grade.  This is not too late! Most of these skills are merely delayed, and with the proper treatment and exercises, can be up and running in weeks.  Of course, deeper processing delays such as dyslexia or dysgraphia may also be affecting your child's progress.  After three decades of evaluating students with these unique brains, we can counsel and guide your next steps to enable them to succeed.

Our services are rarely covered by insurance companies. We strive to keep our fees reasonable and affordable. This office accepts checks or cash, only.
